BioCurrently teaching at Savannah College of Art and Design, Mary Chi-Whi Kim is responsible for helping fund Columbus, Ohio’s first-ever Asia Fest, now an annual central Ohio tradition. As an undergraduate at The Ohio State University, she helped change the Women Studies curriculum by conducting research on Asian women’s and Asian American women’s literature. As coeditor of Asian American Voice, she helped secure permanent institutional funding for the student newsletter and won a campus and community service award. Recently she co-organized the first community-based Asian American literary events in Savannah, Georgia.
Winner of a 2006 Atlanta Review International Merit Award, she has published in the New York Times Magazine and various literary journals, including Many Mountains Moving, Puerto Del Sol, Kalliope, and Literary Mama, and won two poem commissions from The Ohio State University’s Multicultural Center. Her chapbook Silken Purse is available from Pudding House Press. Her multi-genre, self-help book especially for abuse survivors, Karma Suture, is available on Amazon.com and won an Honorable Mention in the 2007 Writers’ Digest International Self-Published Books Contest.
